What do you think of it?
Do you think that giving tablets to teachers in public schools will enhance eductaion? Why? Why not?
Share your ideas with us and think of different ways you could use tablets in your classroom.
Looking forward to your answers!

I think it would be lovely having all this technology in the classroom, but not all students AND TEACHERS are used to it. In class, there are lots of apps we could download to use with students...E-books are specially good, because many of them come with the written and spoken book, and others with animations like songs (There's one from BEatles - Yellow Submarine that's awesone!!!). Also, songs, lyrics, videos..they all would enhance teaching and learning!
ResponderExcluirI agree with Karen, it would be really great to be able to use all these new technologies in class. But first of all, we have to teach our teachers to use all these technologies. Unfortunately, not every teacher in Brazil is familiar with computers, internet and all the great things that come with them!
ResponderExcluirHope it works. The Government must have in mind they have to work on the quality of the courses together with implementing new technologies.
ResponderExcluirI think it would be a great tool to use in the classroon if it would be available for teachers to use. Teachers should use e-books, movies, songs, etc, downloaded in this device which is easy to carry and to use in any classroom and also students would love to have the opportunity to use tablets in their classes.
ResponderExcluirWell, It could be a good tool to enhance learning but it must come with approaches and educational plans. Not just giving these devices to students without having a real purpose behind it. Another problem is that most public schools were not able to manage their classes on a computer lab yet, so how could they handle tablets? The basic solution is that both teachers and students should be prepated for that first, or else the tool will be just a fancy object.
ResponderExcluirTechnology or Instruction? The trade-off of development.
ResponderExcluirDuring my last year in the faculty of IT, together with a group I engaged myself in a project with a social scope. On that occasion, the social responsibility topic, now so acclaimed, was not on the spots.
Socio-economic contrasts are common in the lives of many Brazilians. In the municipality of Rio de Janeiro would be no different, as it would be for many other municipalities throughout Brazil.
Such reality is still shocking. Especially when contrasted with the scenario of natural beauty, renowned universities, secular libraries, monumental cultural centers, cinemas, and so many cultural options.
Behind the scenes, Rio had, for some neighborhoods, very low levels of human development. Sad to say, but side by side with wealthiness there were people living under the poverty line, without access to the basics: food, sanitation, education, just to name a few. Technology? Something even utopian.
How to intervene in this context and to contribute effectively to change that reality? Deploy the model life of the Jetsons? Something equally incongruous and counterproductive.
Firstly, it was necessary to help that group of people to recover their dignity, supplying them with the basics.

Only after this process of recovery one might think of something more daring. By daring, we mean it gradual. The inclusion of these people in the tech world could not be something abrupt. If it was so, we could lead them to a feeling of incompetence due to a false sense of being inefficient users of the resources, when in fact they were not! Our aim was to boost in them a sense of achievement rather traumatizing or frustrating them for life.
Several groups were studying possibilities of transformation. One that emerged as viable was the “Digital Telecentre”, already available and tested in many parts of the world. Operating as an open door facility, the DT aims to provide access and to a certain extent promote digital inclusion to less fortunate people.
Refurbishing public estate and equipping them was the start. To that aim, the community had to put their hands on to make it happen. Sponsored by local authority and businessman, the next step was deploying the multimedia equipments (TV, Video, Audio, Computers, Printers, etc.), organizing the training rooms and the place where people could meet for leisure and interchange of experiences.
In this place, people would find a menu of diversified training programs and culture activities that would lead them to get familiar with all that technology can provide, before starting using it. That was our concept of training individuals to be agents of transformation in the society to which they belong.
Technology still exerts fascination. However, no benefit will avail if the basics is not supplied. It does not serve any purpose to have libraries full of rare books if you cannot read and make good use of them. So it is with computers, printers, tablets, etc.., in the hands of the unlearned.
Some imagine that the mere fact of providing classrooms with the latest high tech equipment model constitutes the hallmark of development. Doing so would be reducing the role of socioeconomic development to a lower level.
Before giving computers or whatever, you must help people to develop a critical sense so that they could be able to evaluate the many possibilities that technology can offer and how use it properly.
There is an old saying that says: "the world is done with men and books." More than ever I am convinced that this proverb is entirely valid for today.
We are not opposed to technological advancement. Rather, in the context of lacking competences and training, we must help people to recover their dignity, I mean: helping them to understand and apprehend this new technological reality, so that they may fully benefit from it. Otherwise, it will prove a waste of resources!

ResponderExcluirThe idea is very interesting, but first of all you must ask the following question: Teachers will be prepared to use this feature, since a vast majority of teachers are not yet fully adapted to new technologies? If there is a training, I see as a great ally of educational development.
ResponderExcluirI think this idea is great because we are heading towards this kind of interaction and collaboration, but we have to keep in mind that this reality might not be true at the present time in public schools due to some structural problems that many schools face. Also, teachers must be trained and have an objective to use the tablets, if not, giving tablets will just be a matter of "giving" and not enhancing education as it should be.
ExcluirBut with great support and assistance from the government, using technology in class would be of extreme help and time-saving, something that teachers really need.
Well I teach English in Município and I received a tablet from Learning Factory but the intension of Cultura Inglesa was to make it easier for teachers having all the books we work in the tablet. It wouldn´t be necessary to carry all those books with you. In my opinion it was a good idea because it was a way of learning how to deal with this technology, before receiving this tablet I have never thought about what a tablet was. It was a motivation to teachers to use new technologies in class as they already use them for their own benefit.
